You remember who picked up

Think back to your first 90 days.

Somebody picked up. Maybe it was your sponsor, or a guy from the Tuesday meeting whose last name you never learned. You were shaky, and they stayed on the line.

You probably can't recall a word they said. You remember that they answered.

I've been sober 31 years, and I'm asking you to be that person for somebody else.

What I'm asking for

RecoveryBridge is a free place where someone in recovery can reach a peer who's been there. No waitlist and no intake form.

We've got 125 members now. We're short on listeners.

A listener is someone with solid time in recovery who's willing to show up for a person having a hard night. You come as a peer who's lived it. The clinical work belongs to the professionals.

Your job is to listen. Fixing is off the table.

Most hard moments in recovery land between meetings. 11pm on a Wednesday. The parking lot after a bad day at work. Those are the hours RecoveryBridge is built for.

Sarah wanted one thing

Sarah isn't her real name. She lives in a small town, and she'd been sober a while when she relapsed.

Years ago a boss broke her anonymity. Now she's afraid that walking into a local meeting could get her recognized and cost her the job she has.

When she lived in a big city, meetings were easy to find and nobody knew her. Her town doesn't work that way.

She reached out to RecoveryBridge because she wanted someone to tell her it was okay.

That's a small thing to ask for. It only works if somebody's on the other end.

What you get out of it

You already know this part. Helping another person in recovery is how a lot of us stayed sober in the first place.

Listening to someone on day 9 puts you back in touch with your own day 9. That's good medicine for anyone with 10 or 20 years who's gotten comfortable.

You can do it from home, on the nights you've got something to give.

Somebody like Sarah is going to reach out this week. I'd like you to be the one who answers.
